Parental/Carer Questionnaires

We administered two questionnaires in 2015, the first at the beginning of the Spring term. The second was administered during the Autumn term so that we could ascertain parental/carer views since the last questionnaire. The second questionnaire focused on a smaller number of aspects of school life than the first. Please click on the link to read the report.

A Report about the Parental Questionnaire administered in the Autumn Term 2016

WOLSEY HOUSE PRIMARY SCHOOL

PARENTS AND CARERS’ VIEWS

At Wolsey House Primary School we value the strong home-school partnership which exists. Working in partnership will ensure the development of every child’s full potential.

As part of this partnership working we want to hear your views about the school.

We would like to thank all those parents who participated in our parental survey administered by the NFER in the Spring term 2015.  We acknowledge that we can always improve and would like to respond to the issues you raised.

We are very pleased to receive the positive comments, particularly the fact that 96% of you say that you feel the school provides a safe environment for your child, and 94% of you say that your children are happy at school. This is extremely important to us. We are also pleased that 94% agree that overall, you are satisfied with the school.

One parent wrote:

‘The children are happy and teachers are great, never had a problem with anything.’

Another wrote:

‘My child is happy at school and there are good teaching materials/contents and

Good teaching standards.’

There were many positive comments about the school in response to the question “What do you think is particularly good about your child’s school.” We would like to share some examples with you:

‘Professionalism and friendliness of the teaching staff.’

‘Teachers including headteacher are very caring, co-operative and well-behaved.

‘It is a clean, safe school where they encourage each pupil’s learning at their own pace.’

‘Teachers are friendly and supportive, good communication with all school members. School always inform about upcoming events.’

‘In all aspects it is just a brilliant school, never had any problems.’

‘Teachers.’

‘With the new headteacher parents are more involved, children are happier. The school is running much better.’

‘The school must be doing something good my daughter loves going to school and the trips. The text messaging service is a brilliant idea too.’

‘Inclusion.’

‘My child joined this school a few months ago. He likes it very much and he has improved as well. Study and staff are all good.’

‘ – anti-bullying

  • the new headteacher (has a new good strategy)’

‘The new headmistress is an additional asset to an already brilliant school. My child is very happy at school and the school are quick to respond to any issues. My child was recognised as SEND a few years ago and I cannot fault how well the school have managed this. Well done.’

‘The new headteacher. All stuff i.e. Deputy Head is approachable and will address any concerns/issues very quickly. Teaching staff are all very supportive.’

‘The interaction between the head and pupils is fantastic! It’s great to see the headteacher making the effort with each individual child. My son’s teacher is especially supportive.’

‘Good parent teacher relationship. The teachers in my children’s classes are always willing to help with any problem I have or the children have. Well done Wolsey.’

‘When my daughter started Wolsey she had little confidence and she was just in her bubble. Now she has loads of confidence and has made loads of friends.’

‘I like my child’s school due to equality among the different races and the teachers are very good in helping them learn.’

‘Respect everyone and be nice to all race and religions.’

We would like to invite you to visit the school website and read other examples of feedback from parents and carers.

                 --------------------------------------------------------------------

We really welcome and value your ‘constructive criticism’ as it gives us another perspective on our performance as a school. We are very keen to work in partnership with parents to ensure we provide the best possible education we can for our children.

Several parents raised concerns about homework. Many of the issues raised will be discussed and we are in the process of reviewing the homework policy which will be available on the school’s website. (We will inform you when this has been done and will be available for you to read.) We believe that homework tasks should complement the learning taking place in school. It is very important that your child undertakes the tasks and brings in the homework on the correct day, as the teacher sets time aside on that day to go through it with the class. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that it is important that reading books are returned regularly to school, some have been lost and damaged.

Some of you were concerned about the school’s communication systems with parents/carers. Many have provided positive feedback regarding the text messaging service we provide. One parent wrote: ‘The text messaging service is a brilliant idea.’  We are currently updating our website and plan to upload all letters and newsletters in the future. We understand that children can mislay letters at times. We will try to ensure that details of any events that are arranged or changed at short notice, will be texted to you. Can you please make sure that we always have up to date numbers and remember that our system only allows us to send a text to the number that is the first contact.

A small percentage raised concern about the school’s provision of out-of-hours clubs and activities, others were satisfied with the current provision. We will upload details of all that the school currently provides. It is an area which we had identified needed developing at Wolsey. In light of this evaluation we have planned to introduce more activities for the children, including the younger ones. I would like to point out that activities for the younger ones e.g. Foundation Stage Dance, will take place during the day. Staying for an after-school club would make it a long day. We are also researching into the possibility of establishing and “After School Club,” which would provide after school supervision and care for children. We will keep you informed of developments regarding all of these issues.

Some of you would like to know more about what is taught in school and how your child is progressing. We plan to hold curriculum evenings for Foundation Stage,   Key Stages 1 and 2, and 3 parent evenings to discuss your children’s progress. The curriculum newsletters have been sent out at the beginning of each term and are displayed on the website. If you do not receive them, please let Mrs. King know. We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of our open door policy. You do not need to limit yourselves to the formal meetings, if you have a query please ask. If we cannot answer your query immediately we will get back to you.

We will be sending out a newsletter late in the summer term about the format and administration of tests and what we do with the information and results of these tests. At report time we will also give you more information about how we assess pupils and what we mean by the above/at/below average comments. Again, please remember that you are given an opportunity to make an appointment to come and discuss the report with your child’s class teacher.

As you will see from the results of the survey on the next few pages, there is a very small minority of parents who obviously have concerns or issues that they feel are not addressed. Some of these issues were very specific and personal and are outside the scope of this general summary of the survey.  However, we would encourage those parents to contact Mrs King for an appointment to discuss their concerns.
