French

French at KS2 is taught progressively using the Language Angels scheme, which balances substantive knowledge (core vocabulary, grammar, phonics and cultural awareness) with disciplinary knowledge (skills for listening, speaking, reading and writing). Lessons are carefully sequenced so that prior learning is revisited and deepened over time, helping children move from simple words and phrases to more confident communication.

Teaching strategies include songs, interactive games, repetition, and resources from Language Angels, all designed to make learning engaging and memorable. These approaches support accurate pronunciation, pattern recognition and sentence building, while encouraging children to apply their knowledge in practical contexts. Examples of topics—such as greetings, animals, food, and everyday routines—are introduced progressively across year groups to build both confidence and fluency.
