Autumn 1 Big question 2021

We have a very busy and exciting term coming up in Year 1, with lots of fun filled learning and activities.

In Literacy this half term, we will be learning about rhyming words in order to add a new verse to a poem. We will also be looking at writing captions and simple sentences. Our learning does not stop there, we are going be learning how to use labels and extending our writing by making use of adjectives.

In Year 1, we love to read. This half term we will be developing our reading skills by learning how to use known graphemes to decode unfamiliar words. We will also be retelling known stories, keeping to the sequence of the story. The author for the term that we will be learning about it David McKee.

In Numeracy we are learning to sort objects by looking at similarities and differences. We will then be moving on to counting, both forwards and backwards. Next, we will be comparing and ordering numbers before focusing our attention on exploring number bonds to 10.

In Science, we are going be exploring our senses. We will be learning about the different parts of our body, particularly those linked to our five senses. We will be using our senses to observe the change in the seasons, looking at how the weather changes as we move in to Autumn. Not forgetting the many experiments that we will be carrying out.

In PSHE, Year 1 will be designing their own set of class rules, our very own class charter. We will also be thinking about how we can welcome everyone into our class, thinking about how we can make others feel happy in our classroom. We will also be thinking about how we are kept safe and how we can stay safe when we are at school.

In Art, we will be using our sense of sight to look at different pieces of art work and decide whether we like the art, giving good reasons for our choices.

In Religious Education, we will be talking about belonging. We will be thinking about where we belong and who we belong to. We will also be talking about our beliefs and what we believe in.

In Music, we will be having lots of fun learning about pulse and beat through an exciting sing called – ‘Hey you!’. We will also be learning how to play instruments keeping to the beat of the song.

We know it is important to be able to use technology but it is even more important to stay safe when we are online. In ICT, we will be learning how to stay safe online and using our details to learn how to log on.
